Bouncing Souls/Street Dogs

I saw a bunch of bands today, and as the title suggests, the two I attended to see were the Bouncing Souls and the Street Dogs. I have to say that this was a great show. The crowd was good for a Portland crowd...I even considered braving the circle pit until I remembered I don't have health insurance.

The opening bands were Left Alone and Whole Wheat Bread. Left Alone we had seen before. They are an ok band and I bought their record despite them teasing the balcony sitters (I swear, I was just conserving my energy till later). Then Whole Wheat Bread came on. I hadn't been sure that I'd like them when I saw the shirts they were selling; they said "I like black people". But then the band came on, and they were black people, so I was pretty sure it wasn't bigotry. And I have to say I loved them. Their sound is super tight, albeit more pop punk than I would have hoped. But they really had their act down and I bought their CD too. Their sound reminds me of someone, but I can't place it.

The Street Dogs were great as always, but I missed hearing a couple of staples (Justifiable Fisticuffs and their cover of Career Opportunities) that were replaced by new songs. And the Bouncing Souls were also great as always. The only songs they didn't play that I wanted to hear were "I like your mom" and "The Ballad of Johnny X."

Nathan broke up one fight, which is pretty much typical. We had a great time overall.
