murphys

the murphys put on a great show just as i expected. the pdx punks put on a less than great show, but i didn't expect much from them after the way they've been the last two shows. the opening bands were alright. band one was called darkbuster, and i got to really like them until (as nathan has reported) they launched into "i hate the unseen". it didn't really piss me off, but it made me realize that i must like the unseen a lot more than i thought i did, because right up until that moment, i was ready to go buy their record and then i changed my mind. they had this great dub style song called "rudi is a rude rude boy". they also had a female guitarist, which makes me feel good, because not many punk bands have those, and when i grow up, i'd like to be in a punk band in my mind. (seriously, that's way too hard of work, and i don't like living on the road).
the second band was the lost city angels, and we had seen them twice before earlier this year. i didn't give them a good report last time, but they're growing on me. i think they were the best opening band this time. then it was gang green, who i think are supposed to be legends, but i couldn't find a website so i'm not sure. anyway, whatever they are, i hated them.
the murphys played a great show and they played almost all of my favorites, and reminded me of the fact that i don't know anywhere near half of their catalog. i think today i'll go out and buy everything they've got.
in non-concert news, i think i do have a cold. i'm not sure that i got it from the kids though. although they were all sick little monsters, i was with them for 4 days with no symptoms, so it was more likely being on a plane, or being in a room packed with dirty micks. anyway, it's just a sore throat, so i'm not feeling too bad. i just don't want to talk, and i do want to sleep and drink juice. i won't be a bum today, but i will take it easier than i did yesterday. it's a bummer because i've got so much crap to do now that i'm unemployed.
today's quote:
(dontinued from previous)
"Fifth step: Show this enemy in actions that seem strange, militant, or different.
Always portray the enemy as non-human, evil, a killing machine.

Sixth step: Eliminate opposition to the ruling party.
Create an "Us versus Them" mentality. Leave no room for opinions in between.
One that does not support all actions of the ruling party should be considered a traitor."
(Anti-Flag, "The Anatomy of Your Enemy)
