horrorpops and disasters

what a fiasco trying to get to this show has been. i knew that the horrorpops were going to be here with the disasters. i have a trusty web calendar that shows all the shows that are coming to portland in a few different genres. unfortunately, it failed me for this show. here's how it happened: i looked up the shows i wanted to go see on the website, and wrote down the dates. i go down to my local tickets west outlet (which luckily for me is inside the safeway). i give the girl a list of shows and dates, not knowing that king banana had made a misprint. it had showed me (or so i thought) that the horrorpops were going to be playing portland on both the 21st and the 25th. they were wrong on one count, and i was wrong on the other. they were playing seattle on the 21st, and playing in bend (4 hours away) on the 25th. luckily for me, the girl behind the counter did what i told her to do, and gave me tickets to two shows not playing in portland. so yesterday, i got all dressed up and then realized i had no place to go, as the disasters were actually playing in seattle. i was bummed, but i knew that i just wasted the cost of one set of tickets and i would still get to see my show. so tonight, i got dressed and waited for showtime. unfortunately, i was still operating on last night's information and expected the show to start at 8:00. at 6:30, i checked my tickets and realized that i was already half an hour late for my show. i missed the disasters entirely. and, since they're in bend next week and not portland, i won't get to see them this year. that definitely sucks, but the bright side is that the horrorpops put on a fantastic show. they have zombie go-go dancers that also do backup oohs and aahs. it was a good time.
today's quote:
Seventh step: Use nationalistic and/or religious symbols and rhetoric to define all actions. This can be achieved by slogans such as "freedom loving people versus those who hate freedom." This can also be achieved by the use of flags.
Eighth step: Align all actions with the dominant deity. It is very effective to use terms like, "It is god's will" or "god bless our nation."
