the title sums up what we've been up to since last post. we haven't been doing too much house hunting on foot, but i've been scouring the internet when i come home from work. the loan officer thinks we should up our purchase price by quite a bit, which is good and bad. we had purposefully not asked for as much as we thought we could get to avoid overextending, which is how people get themselves into trouble in inflated markets. but the benefits to asking for a higher loan are that if we can get enough money to buy a duplex, our bills would actually be lower when you factor in the tenant's rent money. so it might be a good plan. it's a big decision to make. raising our purchase price will get us into southeast portland, but will be a dangerous gamble. it's never good to overextend yourself on a loan, even if it is for real estate. we have a lot of thinking to do.
we had a great time with sean and flint last weekend, and they're coming back down tonight for dinner. i can indeed verify that flint has a living, breathing girlfriend (for all you doubters out there) and she's really nice too.
life is pretty uneventful when you have a desk job. i try to think of good anecdotes from work, but it's tough to get enough for a whole story. one little story-let that i have is that on friday, the boss took us out to lunch because one of the girls in the office was leaving. i had leftovers, and while i was waiting for my train, a bum came up and asked for them, so i gave them to him. i only rarely give money to beggars, but if they ask for food, and i have it, they're almost guaranteed to get it. i know it's a lame story, but it's really all i've got. or, i guess i can ask if you guys think it's immoral to temp for a company that is profiting off the war? the second i found out that we have some government contracts, i wanted to quit. i didn't, though because it almost seems silly since i am only a temp, and my part of the job has nothing to do with the military, and since my income is definitely needed with the upcoming home purchase/job quitting. i really want to start looking for another job, so go ahead and tell me what you think.
