the past few days, i really haven't had the stomach for loud, angry and political, so i've been turning to my nancyboys for solace here. do you ever hear a line in a song and know that it fits you perfectly at that moment? i think my brother and i are both at a time right now where the quiet songs are matching our moods really well.
elliott smith had this one to say: "shine on me baby, cause it's raining in my heart."
i know it sounds better in the song than it does on paper, but it really gives me a sense of satisfaction when songs and moods match.
it's usually not so hard to match my mood with music. those guys in anti-flag and the unseen usually nail my mood pretty well. they get me really motivated, and make me feel that my dissatisfaction with the government isn't so freakish, but the last few days have not been about the world...they've been about me, me, me.
and in response, i've been on a steady diet of elliott smith and conor oberst.
(in real, less introspective news, nathan's up in new york, and his interview is tomorrow. please pray that whatever God has in store for us, he leads us to.)
you guys should comment with song lyrics that have struck you as being relevant lately. you know, anything that has to do with smacking people up, and whatnot.
songs that put my petty problems into perspective:
2 by the dropkick murphys both off the album blackout:
buried alive
the fields of athenry
if you can listen to those two without squeezing out a little tear, you're probably chance. and if you still feel sorry for yourself after listening to them, you're too self-absorbed.
oh, for all my punk rock lyric decoding needs, i always go to: http://www.plyrics.com/. not that most of you need that, but i thought i'd include it anyway.
