my first day

today i took the car for an oil change, went grocery shopping, cooked my husband dinner and cleaned my house. that may not sound like a lot, but you've never cooked pastitsio then. it's a couple-hour affair. and i started out to make 3 other dishes. that'll have to happen tomorrow. i didn't get as much done today as i'd hoped, but it's not nearly bedtime, and i've got tons of energy left. it's really novel for me.
all day long, i've been listening to this one song off one of the two new bright eyes records. i liked it when i heard it at the show, and then i heard it again last night and i couldn't stop listening to it. i've really been listening to the same song on repeat for at least 4 hours. here's my favorite section from it:

We made love on the living room floor
With the noise in background of a televised war
And in the deafening pleasure I thought I heard someone say
“If we walk away, they’ll walk away”

But greed is a bottomless pit
And our freedom’s a joke, we’re just taking a piss
And the whole world must watch the sad comic display
If you’re still free, start running away
CAUSE WE'RE COMING FOR YOU!

but the whole song it awesome. it's very quiet, so if your testosterone doesn't allow for quiet and pensive (chance) then don't bother. the rest of you should download it. that's emmylou harris doing backup vocals. that only means a little to me, but i'm sure it means more to some of you.

part of the problem is that i forgot to mention the name of it. the song is called "landlocked blues" and the album is called "i'm wide awake, it's morning". the other really good song off that record is "train under water". they released two albums at once. the other one is called "digital ash, digital urn" soon, i should just post a list of my favorite bright eyes songs. not that i really think my friends care, but some of you do (thanks, jorge)
