A kickstart gets this old girl running

Ok, Kira commented and said she was surprised I hadn't posted yet, so I'll post.

I haven't been up to much lately. Anyone that surmised that I was too busy working to post was right. It's been busy in a good way; I really like the guys I'm training and everyone's been pulling together to help my team out since we're lagging behind the farthest. I'll be working today, and maybe a little bit tomorrow. If I really wanted to fix this situation so that next week would be easy, I'd work for about eight hours today and tomorrow and then hopefully the week would be cake. But I just don't have that level of motivation. There's a spousal relationship to keep healthy, a dog that needs walking and vet visits, video games to be played, and a co-worker's party to attend. I'll still work, but I'm not a machine; I gots to rest and have fun or else I'll go crazy.

Last night, Nathan and I went to see Children of Men, and it was really good. The only thing I didn't like about it was that they never explained the cause of the infertility. That's an artistic technique that's been happening more and more in movies lately, and I reject the notion that it adds to the story or that it bolsters the theme the writer was going for. I think if you're going to write a story, you have to think through the details and if it's a fantasy-based story, you have to answer all the questions. Like in Mission Impossible 3; ok, I'm not expecting the writers of that pile of drek to really have it all together, but the fact that they didn't explain what the "big bad threat" to humanity was left me cold. It only served to remind me that we're such a fearful culture that we don't even need to know what the threat is before we allow ourselves to be emotionally invested in it.

I also saw Little Miss Sunshine this week. A coworker had it and I said I wanted to see it so she lent it to me. It was awesome. I actually wanted the movie to keep going after it was over just like when I was a little kid watching movies. I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

When I'm not working in the evenings, Nathan and I have been playing Fifa Street. It's a lot of fun and it's good to have an activity that we both do together again. We used to do fun things all the time in college, when we had no real jobs and no responsibilities. So it's nice to have something fun and brainless to do together when I'm at home in the evenings. Without a game, we just do our own thing, which typically involves fighting over who gets the desktop computer, with the loser (me) taking the laptop somewhere comfortable and warm.

My mom is going to California later this month, so I'm hoping to take a weekend trip to see her before she and my dad head to Greece for probably six months or more. And with that, I think I've unloaded all my news. Time for me to start work for the day.

The ending of LMS was just so good .. It was unlike anything else I saw all year .. I also liked Children of Men quite a bit (and have already seen it twice) .. I'm with you that it would have been nice to know what caused the infertility, but for me that's a minor quibble about an otherwise thoroughly satisfying flick

I also think there was no need to waste a scene explaining the cause of the infertility. It would have detracted from all the running!
