ok, i only used that title because nathan told me to. i don't know a short title for this post, but i have two things to whine about tonight.
numero uno: i still don't have my cat. i'm really, really upset about this. for one thing, no one i know in virginia can help me get her to the vet for a checkup. a health certificate is mandatory before shipping animals by air, so within 10 days of flight, the cat needs to get to the vet. i finally quit trying to rely on other people to do this for me, so i looked into getting a plane ticket out there to do it myself. what i found out makes this even more difficult than it was previously: i cannot ship girlcat by cargo because none of the planes i would be put on have pressurized cargos. in addition, my cat must not be taller than 9 inches to fly in the cabin, because that's how tall her kennel can be, and her head cannot touch it. airline regulations. i think my cat is taller than 9 inches. i tried to call zach to measure her, but since the florida is screwing him, he hasn't even been able to call me back, so i missed buying the flight i wanted. so now, i'm back at square zero. i can't have her shipped by herself, i can't afford a ticket right now, and even if i could, there's a chance she won't be allowed on the plane.
what am i going to do??? this wasn't a problem last time she flew. she went cargo and everything was fine. so i'm freaking out. i don't know how to get my cat, and in any case, i can't see being able to afford to do it until after the holidays. i was ready to get her back in october when the weather cooled down, but have been completely unsuccessful at getting anyone to help me ship her. like i said, i'm freaking out. i miss my cat and i'm afraid she won't even remember me anymore.
second problem: we got a parking ticket on sunday. we went downtown to a music store to look at basses for nathan's birthday. we didn't think about taking the MAX until we were already on the highway, so this is our fault for being idiots. we get to the parking lot and there's a line of people trying to pay the machine with no luck and we all decide it's broken. we all get parking tickets. even though we left notes about it. so today i called the ticketing company and yelled at them for a little bit. they didn't take away the ticket, but i'm making a formal complaint to the city of portland. ok, i didn't tell that story very well...there's a lot more little details about it, but i'm really still focusing on the cat thing.

Don't worry, your kitty will remember you. And I'm sure you'll be able to find a place to get her shipped to you. How come you didn't take her with?
my cat is huge (you may remember). i worried about the same size issue when i took him home to alabama with me for christmas a couple of years ago. but just get a soft, nylon carrier. you can smush it down a little, and they likely won't measure it. a ticket for her would cost $75 if you fly delta. they even turned a blind eye when i kept him in my lap during the flight.
christina
thank you guys!! i didn't take her with me before because we were going to stop so much and because we were travelling during the hottest months. a month of driving off and on and through texas in july was enough to make max basically not eat for a month, so it would have been even harder on girl.
i agree with Christina. the regulations are really just for show. I'll even mail you my soft carrier if it would save you any money - I had no problem getting Murphy on domestic flights with it.
as for trying to get her in cargo, I don't know... people ship animals all over the country, i have a hard time believing you couldnt get a cat into portland. have you checked with a pet travel agent?
A couple of hours overtime from nathan should more than cover the added expense! Sucks to here about the guys on the boat, just goes to show that getting out was the right decision.
