the boy leaves tomorrow on his long bike trip to alabama. he'll be gone 20 days. he hasn't been gone that long since the spring of 2003. i'm going to be really lonely. i can't even handle going to sleep on his duty days. i stay up and avoid going to my room. when i do try to go to bed, i sit and fret about being lonely. it sucks to be me.
so not only do i have to be alone, but i also have to wake up at 4:00 am to get him to the airport. everyone knows i'm not a morning person.
i complain, but i'm really happy for him to get to take this trip. he deserves it.
in other news, i got a call today when i was at work from a school in portsmouth asking me to call them on tuesday. this worries me for several reasons. a) portsmouth is the ghetto. b) this particular school is really far away, i believe. c) tuesday is the first day of the school year. i believe that they must be desperate for a teacher, so my likelihood of getting the job is good. but what are they going to do? ask me to come in early tuesday morning, and put me in a classroom full of kids, with no chance of preparing for the school year? d) it's a first grade teaching position, as far as i can tell. can you imagine the responsibility? i shirk responsibility. i don't want to be responsible for anyone learning how to read or do basic mathematic functions. i like fourth grade. at that point, they're already messed up enough to where you can't do them too much harm.
we'll see how this goes. if i'm offered a job, i will surely take it because it will mean a 20k pay raise.
lately i've taken up playing yahoo's hold 'em poker. i suppose if i don't get a teaching job, i can get good at poker and be a full time gambler. what should my gambling name be?

sorry you're all alone. i can't imagine. i can't fall asleep if my cat isn't next to me! and those two weeks chris was here were the only fourteen days i've slept through the night here in new zealand.
your gambling name should be an adjective describing the shirt you are wearing, and your favourite texas city. for instance, mine would be fuzzy el paso. but yours might be slippery fort worth, or ratty austin. don't ask me if you don't like it.
i think you've got a great point there. i will work on it. right now, it would be "skull-'n-crossbones austin (or plano)".
